Hi, after 5 years driving an EV, the car is still going well. Here are my real stats as of 16 September 2026.
Age of EV: 5yrs
Odometer: 115,863km
Average lifetime driving consumption rate 2021-26: 15kWh/100km
The above figure is average energy used in driving over 5 years, as shown in the car.
Average total energy consumption rate 2026: 20kWh/100km. This is the figure for total energy bought, which is higher than energy used in driving, as it includes energy used while parked for AC, Sentry, battery management, pre conditioning etc. and energy used by the charger or car while parked during the charging process.
Battery storage capacity: after 5 yrs and 115,863km the battery is now at 88.3% of original capacity.
Range: It varies with speed and weather, my best real world range in my EV was 610km and my lowest real range was 340km. My average real world highway range now, after 5 yrs is 420-450km.
Charging Lifetime History:
I usually park on the street and my charging split over the 5 years was AC charging for 55% of charges and DC charging for 45% of charges.
In the calendar year 2026, the number of charges is a split of 58%AC and 42%DC charges.
When split by kWh though, this calendar year, it’s 49%AC to 51%DC by kWh.
Charging time: varies but as an example, my fastest charging rate was when the charge rate peaked at 196kW at the DC charger at Holbrook NSW, taking my EV from 16% to 80% in 25 min.
If I charge while parked at the beach and use a polecharger, at 11kW, its a 30% top up in 2 hours.
Type of roads travelled: Travel has been across eastern states of Australia including all the coast from Townsville Qld to Port Fairy Vic.
Inland travel included out to Nhill and Mildura in Vic and Balranald, Hillston, Cobar and Bourke in NSW.
Lifetime Average Charging Cost: Over 5 years average is $6.73/100km. For this calendar year, 2026, up to 16 Sep, $8.21/100km.
Type of EV: My EV is an long range, dual motor, AWD, 5 seater sedan, August 2021, Tesla Model 3 with the standard 75kWh battery and 19” wheels.
