DC Charging for EVs

The Tesla Model 3 Long Range EV can charge at over 200 kW.

My fastest charging rate was when the charge rate peaked at 196kW at the DC charger at Holbrook NSW, taking my EV from 16% to 80% in 25 min. That 80% gives me 345-370km range at 110km/hr.

If I was to charge from 80 to 100, it would slow as the battery fills and take longer to do that last 20% than it did to get to 80%. From that extra 20% my EV would get about an extra 90km range at 110km/hr.

Over the past 3 years 11 mths and 97,319 kms, I’ve used lots of DC chargers across NSW, Vic and Qld. 11% of my DC charges were free, (a small allowance came with the car and NRMA chargers were free for a while) and 89% paid. In the past 12 months though, only 5% of DC charges were free, and 95% were paid. The highest I have paid in one DC charge was $35.88 for 52kWh at the Goulburn Supercharger. My average paid DC charge cost is $12.14 over 4 years, but only $10 per DC charge over last 12 months.

DC Networks used
The DC network I have used most is Tesla 40%, Evie 20%, Jolt 16%, Exploren 9%, NRMA 6%, Chargefox 4% and other networks 6%. However, when looked at over just past 12 months Exploren is 28%, Tesla 24%, Evie 22%, Jolt 21% and others 5%.
