28-10-2021: The Tesla spare wheel and tyre weigh 25 kg and you can use the space inside the spare wheel. I tried it to see how much I could pack easily in the boot and with the spare wheel with tyre fitted, there is still room for backpack, shoes, two shopping bags, luggage bag plus more space left.

I also have my tools, jack, hand tyre pump, first aid kit, fire extinguisher, towels etc etc in the large storage compartment underneath the floor of the boot, accessed by lifting up the mat near the boot lip.

There is also the front trunk, which I just use for my cables, so it is half empty and has room for more things as well.

1-10-2021: Picked up my genuine Tesla spare wheel and tyre from Tesla Service Centre at Miranda today. Its just the same as the wheel and tyre on the car, complete with tyre pressure sensor.  I’ll leave it at home while driving around Sydney, but will be taking it with me on trips. Still room for bags in the boot.

30-09-2021: I contacted Tesla service, through the Tesla app, for a quote on an original full size Tesla spare wheel and tyre and they responded promptly and were helpful and I decided to order it. It was ready next day to pick up at a Tesla service centre.

It is an investment, and I thought worthwhile as it will last the life of the car. Having a spare for the next 8-10 years, means I can put it in the boot when I travel in rural Australia and if needed I can change the wheel & damaged tyre, or NRMA or a local garage can help me change it and I can continue on and safely travel what could be up to 200kms to the next regional major town, to get the damaged tyre repaired or replaced.

I have done thousands of kms across regional Australia in my time and have always had a spare in my vehicle, so changing to a car without a spare worried me. I carry a manual air pump, so can top up slow leaks easily, but not fix a puncture or tear in the wall.

I had earlier researched and found https://modernspare.com/ in the USA produce a space saver made to suit my Tesla 3. They say it has the same rolling diameter, which is important. But there is a long production wait and it is very expensive in freight to deliver to Australia.
